- Physics
HC Verma
This book is good for theory(Basic theory, It does not contain much formula and much derivations required for jee. So for those, you should follow DC Pandey) and is known as god of physics. It has many good questions and each questions should be solved.
Resnick, Halliday and Krane
This book should be used for reference when you have problems in understanding some concepts. Infact you can use University of Physics by sears and zemansky
IE IrodovThis book consists of a good collection of questions. But only 1000 questions are useful. So please do find out the useful questions and then solve them.
New pattern By DC pandeyThis one should be used to get in touch with the pattern of IIT JEE. Also has good questions
DC Pandey ( understanding Physics )You can use this one, if you still feel you are weak in theory portion
35 Years IIT JEE SolutionsYou must solve each and every questions of this chapter. - Chemistry
Physical Chemistry
OP tandonThis book must be used for theory portion. QUESTIONS ARE USELESS.
P. Bahadur Numerical chemistryIt has a good collection of numericals and must be solved in order to get a grip over the physical chemistry questions.
Balaji ( NK avasthi, VK Jaiswal )It has got a good level questions of physical chemistry according to the pattern.
Inorganic Chemistry
NCERTFinish this god book
OP Tandon
Take out IIT JEE brochure and tick out the topics in syllabus in the book ( OP TANDON ). Read only the required part from it.
Also make a notes of reactions and properties for the groups.
JD Lee/Shriver and atkinsIts good for reference. Does not matter, if u skip it even.
Resonance Inorganic bookletIts good even, if u want a summarised part. You can buy here and here .
Organic chemistry
Ranjeet ShahiDont read the theory. Just solve the problems from it.
Solomons/ LG wade/ Paula bruice and etcMust be used for reference and clear of concepts. You wont get good concept like this anywhere else.
Resonance material ( ORGANIC CHEMISTRY ONE)Its good in theory. You can get individual reso booklets in net on This site and here and here .
SN SanyalFor named reactions and their mechanisms, you can plainly follow this book. Its really good and generally you will get 2-3 questions in IIT JEE everytime.
35 Years IIT JEE SolutionsYou must solve each and every questions of this chapter. ( APPLIES TO PHYSICAL, ORGANIC AND INORGANIC) - Maths
TMH
You must solve this book. This has a good collection of solved and unsolved problems. Much helpful for IIT JEE. Each and every question is a brand new one.
Arihant set of 8 booksThese are also good and can be used for theory.
New pattern by SK GoyalThese are also helpful if you want more practice and want to start from a basic level.
RD Sharma ( For IIT JEE objective)This is recommended, if you are weak in some topic, then you can start from here. The substitute of this book is ML Khanna.
35 Years IIT JEE SolutionsYou must solve each and every questions of this chapter.
Play with graphsGraphs form an important part of maths. So to master in graphs buy Play with graphs.
P.S. :- There are some other books that should be used for some chapters. I will say about those books while discussing for the respective chapters.
Also, you can refer to your coaching materials, if you find it comfortable. But i have just tried to share what helped me to get this success.

but due to sme real things that i lacked but wrked really hard and even sincerely i cudnt make it to IIT
there are very genreral doubts in my mind that maybe makes me smtimes believe that IIT is a tough job

ReplyDeleteYou are your best judge. You can look into yourself and know what do you lack.
To be successful in any exam, you need some things.
They are:-
1) Hardwork
2) Intelligence
3) concentration
4) Luck
5)Time management
6) Positive Attitude
7) Perfect Motivation
And IIT is not a difficult examination. Its just a different one. It tests your many skills; Starting from Knowledge to perception. It also throws many surprises in the paper. So, to be successful in IIT JEE you need to adapt yourself to surprises.
Now coming to your questions;
1) The approach varies from question to question. But the best thing is to
i) Write down the given data
ii) Draw a diagram often or else make a table or graph if required.
iii) Then identify what should you find
iv) Think of equation and formulas to find out the required answer.
v) Apply the equation and get the result. Also sometimes after getting answer you need to check whether the answer satisfies all the required conditions or not ( MAINLY IN Maths)
2) Yeah, If you run out of time; then it would impose pressure on you and you will hurry and in that case you are likely to make mistakes. ( Most probably your reason of not getting good marks despite of hardwork)
3) motive behind solving a book is to get mastery over the concepts learned. Learning concepts and solving problems are interlinked. You learn when you solve and you solve when you learn. Your motto should be to learn different things. You should skip alike questions and should not see the answer till you reach the dead end of an question.
If you solve a question on your own, it might take much time; but the concept you get and the maturity to think you develop is unmatched even with solving 10 questions.
4) Well, you should have a positive attitude. Think of your past achievements and be confident. Think that whatever the paper it may be, you can able to solve it. This thought makes you enough confident
5) You should look into the points i mentioned above and say me which one you lack. Then only i can help
6) Again the same answer

Often when i start with a topic i slowly and steadily make a mess of it . Irritation arises and finally loosens my inner confidence ..
also in exam im unable to smtimes believe in myself for eg this time in CHEM where i was stuck in SALT BRIDGE problem in the first attempt i marked "A,C" and then thought hw can this b right ? i must go for a guess and then i messed i marked ABCD and it was wrong :( and in this way i was compromising with my marks
I mentioned this incident because . i really want to ask is it that there is a connection with ur mental attitude and also the way u approach ur problems at home responsible for ur behaviour in exam
I wanted to confirm wether this type of situation arises in ur mind as an individual and also a guy with a rank of 416 ? if its true then hw do i handle it because the one getting a good rank atlast reaches the right answer :( ..
Hw can i improve onto this while i do questions at home and prepare

I fear that if I take LG Wade and teacher would teach with reference to OP random, it would probably create confusions. I don't want to compromise on quality and I don't have even budget to buy both books for side by side use.What shall I do ?

Lg wade is available online ...foreign edition...with solutions too.Op tandon for organic chemistry is not so much useful.....rather than it buy lg wade or solomons and fryhle.....

The thing is you should know the concepts rather than with reference to any book! So, i would suggest spending money on foreign authors or get PDF

DeleteI wont recommend the cengage ones because their questions and solutions had errors! ( at least in 2013 )
Well, DC Pandey is totally apt for JEE! You should not solve all! You should just solve till you are assured that you can solve all previous year JEE Questions.
Morrison Boyd is a good one but i dont think it explains the mechanisms well! So, i would suggest LG Wade or Solomons!
